Open the Book

Pharaoh's daughterSince 2004, a team from St Wystan's Church has been taking regular assemblies for KS1 at Repton Primary School and St Wystan's School using Open the Book, a national project to tell Bible stories to children of primary age.   Based on the Lion 'Storyteller Bible' written by Bob Hartman, stories are illustrated with simple props, costumes and mime, puppets or pictures.   The children are actively involved in action songs, and sometimes share in the drama and story-telling. The presentation is followed by a short prayer.

Over a three year cycle we cover many stories from the Old and New Testament.

We aim . . .
to enable every child to hear the story of the Bible during their primary years;
to present it in an accessible, enjoyable way, and to help children to realise its relevance today;
to encourage links between school and church in a local context.

We would always welcome more people to join our team or to visit and find out more about Open the Book for their church.
