Safeguarding

Protecting children, young people and vulnerable adults is the responsibility of us all, and in 2016, St Wystan's Church PCC adopted the House of Bishops' safeguarding policy 'Promoting a Safer Church'.

Parish Safeguarding coordinators for St Wystan's Church

If you have a concern that someone may be at risk of harm, it is important to share your concern with someone in a position to help.   Please speak to one of the parish safeguarding coordinators, Wendy Mann (children)and Kristian Stentoft (vulnerable adults).   They can be contacted on 07395 372074.   Alternatively, speak to one of the clergy.

Reporting your concern to the Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser

If you are not satisfied with the response, or if you have concerns about a member of the clergy, please contact the Diocesan Safeguarding Adviser on 01332 388678, or one of the Archdeacons.   To report a safeguarding concern confidentially, please click here.   You can also report any concerns to the Police or Social Care.

Church of England Safeguarding Past Cases Review 2 (PCR2)

The Bishop of Derby writes: "We are now at the beginning of the PCR2 process, an independent review to look at all the safeguarding files, historic and current for both adults and children, including all Church officers.   The review aims to ensure that wherever concerns have been raised since the first such review in 2007 they have been handled appropriately.   PCR2 will not only look at all types of harm, both to children and or adults, but will probe much deeper into records or concerns in parishes."

The Vicar writes: "While we at SS Wystan's, Saviour's and Mary's appear to have nothing to report, we are still taking this very seriously and doing all we can to support the review.   We recognise also that among those who have moved here in recent years there may be survivors of abuse that took place elsewhere."

If you wish to make representations to the PCR2 process in the Diocese or need to come forward with information or make any disclosures regarding church related abuse you are encouraged to make direct contact with the Safeguarding Team 01332 388678.   However, we recognise that this may not feel safe for those with experience of abuse from within the church, so there is a dedicated national helpline operated independently of the church by the N.S.P.C.C.   Contact them on 0800 80 20 20.
